Help--I'm so pathetic (sometimes)
Aug. 17th, 2005 08:05 amI want to copy the name of another LJ user from my flist into an entry (to tag someone) but I have no idea how to do this. I tried to highlight an LJ name and then right click to do a typical copy/paste but that is clearly not the way. Could someone comment with step by step instructions? Once I know how to do things they become second nature, but I need to be "walked" through slowly the first time around with detailed instructions. Thank you to whoever out there can help!

If you use the rich text for posts, there is a little icon/button with a user "head" on it; if you choose it at the point where you want to insert the LJ user's name, it pops up a dialog box and you just put the user name in the box and enter, and the LJ name is automatically inserted into your post.

Date: 2005-08-17 12:56 pm (UTC)If so, this is what you do:
1) Go to update your journal and click on the rich text option just below the text box.
2) When the page loads, you will see a little row of buttons above it (a B on the left hand side, arrows on the right).
3) You see the little man with the blue shirt icon, fourth from the right? Click on that.
4) A little box saying 'Explorer User Prompt' will come up. It asks you to enter a username. Type it in exactly how it appears (eg: shadownyc) and click okay.
5) The user name will now appear in the text box next to the 'little man wearing a shirt' symbol. When you have finished writing your post, click 'update journal' as you would normally. The name will be highlighted and will now be a link.
I hope that's what you meant, and that instructions are clear enough. :)
