OPUS is fabulous...
Aug. 4th, 2007 09:38 pmIf you are in or near NYC between now and September 1st, you must see the Off-Broadway play "Opus" playing at the 59 East 59 Theater between Madison and Park Avenues.
It is a fabulous ensemble piece about a string quartet and how their relationships and interactions reflect upon one another and how the balance changes when one member is fired and another person fills the position.
This is honestly one of THE BEST Off-Broadway shows I have ever seen, including those in Stockbridge (don't hurt me this is THAT GOOD) and SLS doesn't hold a candle to this one. My BIL was incredible, as was the entire cast. Everyone is hopeful that the critics like it as much as the audience feedback. This might encourage a move to a different theater as this one is the home of experimental theater and original pieces, and is currently booked to start a new show after the scheduled closing.
The formal opening night is Tuesday. Check playbill.com and click the link for buying tickets to ALL shows, since this is Off-Broadway. You won't be sorry.
While the play isn't perfect due to some elements that are predictable, it is so easy to become engaged in the play that I still found myself laughing at the humor, gasping at revelations and holding my breath at certain moments.
BTW--If any of you decide to go to the show let me know and I'll ask my BIL to meet you in the lobby if you would like to meet with him or any of his castmates.
