For all those reading my fics (since those are the only things I don't f-lock)...

From here on in the fics will continue to remain Public, but they will be flagged as Adult Concepts. (I just posted a new chapter of TEJTM a few minutes ago.)

Therefore, if you do NOT have your birth date on your LJ page, you may be denied access.

Whether you have been reading as a lurker, or have been commenting regularly (which I love), I don't want anyone to miss out, so please add your birthday on your page...if I'm not embarrassed to do it, you shouldn't be. *snickers*

I think that is such an awesome filter to have. When Freakykat asked about it the other day, I was like, "Jeez. Thats awesome. Now everyone automatically has to put a date in there. Less screening for the authors. I love this idea. They should have come up with it sooner!" Or something. But yeah. I totally love this new thing.

I'm glad you feel good about this step. I think it does help protect authors from inadvertently opening up things to people who shouldn't be reading it.

Please ignore my last comment, I figured it out, thanks to stephmck's post. Would you mind telling me why you are using "adult concepts" which I understand filters if for those under 14, vs. the "explicit adult content" which filters it for those under 18? I'm not sure if I've got it straight! *help me PSA Justin Shadow*

I chose Adult Concepts because using a similar guideline as to films and TV, my stories would probably be rated PG-13 at the most. I rarely write explicit sex scenes, and if I did I would simply elevate the level on that individual chapter. This is just as a precaution so no young kids stumble upon this LJ. To be honest, I really don't think anyone but QaF people will be visiting anyway.

Update...I may reconsider this, but I haven't decided yet. I may just leave my LJ as is, and continue to only friend people 18+.

I usually don't waffle but I just read Xie's post and want to think a bit more.

I put the filter on, but hadn't signed in yet, so I just got the notice on my LJ that every single post was marked "this may contain explicit adult content..." I'm irritated by that. I would put it on some of my fics, but I don't really want my whole journal labeled that way. I also only friend people 18+, but I haven't f-locked anything so I guess that does me no good. *bangs head on desk*

At this point I would just go from today forward and f-lock personal stuff so no restriction is necessary and then with each fic, going forward, make the choice per fic so you can keep it public. I think that's what I'm going to do rather than specifically label my entire LJ.
